HERE IS OUR PROPOSAL

  • VISIT BETWEEN THE MYTH AND THE LEGEND OF CAPPELLA SAN EVERO

According to the legend this chapel has been built on an already existing temple dedicated to the goodness ISIDE , while another says that in 1623 by Cesare d’Engenio Caracciolo  in his book “NAPOLI SACRA” tells about a man that arrested without a right cause  while he was transferred to the prison he turned his face to the Church of the Holy Virgin.

Immediately , part of the wall came down and revealed a peinture ( that one that is hanging up the main althar) exactly that one of the Virgin invocated which gave the name to church SANTA MARIA DELLA PIETA’.The prisoner’s devotion wasn’t vane after a while in fact his prayers were listened by God and he got back his freedom.

Since he never forgot the grace received he made  renew the Pity ordering that on front the Pity there should be a  silver lamp constantly enlighted.

The sacred place become immediately  a pilgrimage site  where many persons invocated grace  for miracles.

Even the Duke of Torremaggiore Giovan Francesco di Sangro, strongly sick , asked for a grace  after having dedicated his whole live to the Virgin  and  after having covered back his health made built  the Chappel Santa Maria della Pietà, commonly known  Pietatella.
